Firm Overview

Schultz & Associates is an intellectual property law firm with both domestic and international clientele. We provide legal consultation and services for the prosecution and litigation of patents, copyrights and trademarks, unfair competition and trade secret matters. Our legal associates are specifically qualified to assist clients with business matters concerning the acquisition, protection and exploitation of all forms of intellectual property.

Russ Schultz

Founder of Schultz & Associates, P.C., Russ Schultz represents a vast diversity of clients in both prosecution and litigation matters. He has successfully represented clients dealing with patent infringement; trademark and trade dress infringement; copyright infringement; and patent, trademark and copyright prosecution.

Prior to founding his own firm, Russ was an attorney with the Dallas office of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, L.L.C., Strasburger & Price, L.L.P. and intellectual property boutique Hubbard, Thurman, Turner & Tucker. Russ began his career at Rohr Industries in California, working in robotics design for the fabrication and assembly of bonded polymer and Kevlar aircraft parts for the stealth bomber.

Russ received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, with a specialization in electro-mechanical controls and computer-controlled mechanical systems, from Texas A&M University; a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, summa cum laude, with a specialization in electromagnetics, from the University of Texas at Dallas; and a Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University.

Russ is admitted to practice before the Texas State Bar; the United States Patent and Trademark Office; the District of Columbia; and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas. He is an active member of the Dallas Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, American Bar Association and American Intellectual Property Law Association.

Nicole Marsh

Nicole Marsh represents clients in both prosecution and litigation matters. She has successfully handled cases involving patent infringement; trademark and trade dress infringement; copyright infringement; and patent, trademark and copyright prosecution.

Prior to joining Schultz & Associates, Nicole worked as an attorney for the law firm of Abbott, Simses, Knister & Kuchler, P.C. in New Orleans, La., a corporate defense litigation firm specializing in toxic torts, products liability and asbestos litigation. She began her career working with a military subcontractor and as a contractor on a pilot plant at Chevron Chemical in Pascagoula, Miss.

Nicole received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Alabama and a Juris Doctor from the Louisiana State University Law Center.
Nicole is admitted to practice before the Louisiana State Bar; the United States Patent and Trademark Office; the Texas State Bar; the United States District Court of Louisiana in the Western, Eastern and Middle Districts; and to the United States District Court of Texas in the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts. She is a member of the Texas State Bar, Louisiana State Bar, Dallas Bar Association and American Intellectual Property Law Association.

Jeff Crook

Jeff Crook handles the prosecution of patents, copyrights and trademarks in a variety of industries. His practice also includes the litigation support functions of patentability and patent validity investigations, right-to-use studies and infringement analysis opinions.

Jeff began his career as an information technology project management consultant with Big Five consulting firms PricewaterhouseCoopers and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. He worked primarily in the telecommunications industry, focusing on project office implementations; development of methods and procedures; mentoring project managers on project management techniques and software; and client relations.

Jeff received a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering from Auburn University; a Master of Business Administration from the College of Business at Auburn University; and a Juris Doctor from the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.

Jeff is admitted to practice before the Texas State Bar. He is an active member of the Texas State Bar; American Bar Association; American Intellectual Property Law Association; Dallas Association for Young Lawyers; Texas Young Lawyers Association; and Dallas Bar Association, where he has volunteered for numerous philanthropic endeavors such as the Community Involvement Committee and the Home Project Committee. Jeff also serves on the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law Alumni Board of Directors.

Dr. Duncan MacFarlane

Dr. Duncan MacFarlane is a full professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in electromagnetics, microwave engineering, optics, probability and statistics, communication systems and electronics.

Duncan has written more than 100 technical papers and patents in the general area of photonic systems and components, and has a long history of expertise in leveraging new materials and fabrication techniques into useful devices and applications. His work in active and passive photonic filters is used widely by practicing optical component and system engineers.

Earlier in his career, Duncan worked at Schafer Associates, Texas Instruments, and JDS Uniphase. He was also involved with a telecommunications system start-up, and co-founded a company dedicated to improving medical imaging through supporting instrumentation.

Duncan received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Brown University; a Ph.D. from Portland State University; and a Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas and a fellow of the Optical Society of America.

Dr. Marvin R. Young

Dr. Marvin Young consults in various areas of patent prosecution, with expertise in assembling optics, physics, electrical engineering and software patent applications. He has performed technical analysis and business planning for existing and start-up companies in the fields of media transport infrastructure, optical transport, VoIP networking and architecture. He has also published more than 30 papers in journals and conference proceedings.

Previously Marvin worked in optical communications with WorldCom, winning the MCI-Worldcom Technology Leadership award in 1999. He has also held positions at Corning, Inc and Celion, Inc., successfully managing development projects, creating strategic partnerships for assembling turnkey private Enterprise WANS and managing the intellectual property and patent portfolio. As a faculty member at New Mexico State University, Marvin taught numerous undergraduate and graduate courses and established a research program in near-field optical microscopy.

Marvin received a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Southern Nazarene University and a Ph.D. in Experimental Physics from the University of Arkansas. His postdoctoral work at King’s College London involved researching optical super-resolution in microscopy and in particle sizing instrumentation.

Marvin is a member of the IEEE and the Optical Society of America.

Antonio Devora

Prior to joining Schultz & Associates, Antonio Devora counseled clients on patent, trademark and trade secret matters. Previously he was an international legal specialist for the law firm of Merchant & Gould in Minneapolis. There he assisted attorneys in filing patent and trademark applications, preparing legal documents and managing dockets.

Antonio received a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Hamline University and a Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law, both in St. Paul, Minnesota with a focus on intellectual property law. His law school studies included membership on the Intellectual Property Law Review and Saul Lefkowitz Trademark Moot Court team.

Antonio is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the Texas State Bar. He is a member of the Texas State Bar, Texas Young Lawyers Association, Dallas Bar Association and Dallas Association of Young Lawyers.
